A(nother) Newsvine Suggestion - Who's Watching You?

Just a quick one that I have been thinking about for a while.

Would it be possible to see who is watching you? I mean who has you on their watchlist. I normally add authors to my watchlist either because I find their writing particularly good or because they tend to post/seed about things that I have an interest in. This (hopefully) means that they will be interested in the things I post/seed about.

Thus if I could see who has me on their watchlist I might be exposed to authors that I hadn't noticed myself but who share similar interests to me. This could easily link in to Mykola's idea of Guilds, in that one could see who is watching your Guild or even which Guilds are watching you.

I don't know how easy this would be, I may be missing something really obvious about how this is a bad idea, so any feedback and ideas would be appreciated.

This is very similar to Slashdot's friends/enemies system. A quite description of it is that there is a little icon beside user's names, and it shows your status with them. Either Friend, Fan (they have you as a friend), and then there are enemy icons, friend of friend icons, etc.

I actually quite enjoy this feature, as it is always nice to see who is watching me, I guess it is just a slight ego boost.

I like that idea, having little icons seems like an intuitive system.

slight ego boost

Yeah, unless no one's watching you ;)

Now you are just bursting me bubble ;-(

Also, you can read about and view the icons I was discussing right here

Cool, I can see this being adapted to Newsvine so that the vine icon can be used. The idea of having foes could be useful as well, one could choose to not see any posts/seeds/comments by ones foes.

Friends/enemies isn't what I would recommend. Having a "Subscriptions" type thing would be much better (and far more professional). Choice of words is vital. I wanted to write about this but don't really like talking about Newsvine in articles...so I'm glad you brought it up :-D

I agree Edward, choice of words is very important. I wasn't suggesting that we should use the same terms as Slashdot, but I liked the concept of foes, I hadn't thought of that previously. Glad someone else was thinking the same things as me.
